A családtörténetek bővelkednek széthúzásban, rivalizálásban, mi több, kis híján testvérgyilkosság is előfordult. József álmai a királyság eljövendő intézményére mutatnak, amit ugyan Jákób és a fiai idegen jelenségként szemléltek. A szentíró a családtörténet tanulságaival a királyság intézményéről akar valamit elmondani.

A bibliai szerzők Egyiptom mellett leggyakrabban annak déli szomszédját, Kús földjét emlegetik.

Erre próbálunk a továbbiakban feleletet kapni.

45 évvel ezelőtt fejeztem be teológiai tanulmányomat.

A címben szereplő get szó [amelynek többes számú alakja a gittin] alapvetően két típusú dokumentum megnevezése: a get pitturin a válólevél, míg a get sihrur a rabszolgáknak adott felszabadító okirat. A Gittin traktátus azonban az elsővel foglalkozik, és a haláchikus irodalomban minden olyan alkalommal, amikor a get szó magában fordul elő, a válólevélre utal. A traktátus tehát nem a válással, a válás erkölcsitörvényi implikációival foglalkozik, hanem a válólevéllel: a dokumentum érvényességének kérdésével, illetve ennek a házassági elválásra vonatkozó következményeivel.

Most Jer 15,10–21-et tanulmányozzuk. Célunk itt is a prófétai panasz tartalmi sajátosságainak kidomborítása, hogy azt összehasonlíthassuk a JHWH panaszával. E prófétai panasz tartalmi sajátosságát a bennük fellelhető legrégibb szövegréteg alapján írjuk le. Ezért versről verse haladva megvizsgáljuk Jer 15,10–21-et tartalmi, irodalomkritikai és redakciókritikai szempontok alapján (1.). Ezután, a rekonstruált prófétai panasz alapján, leírjuk e panasz tartalmi sajátosságait (2.)

Napjainkban is égető kérdés, hogy mi a szabadság. A szolgaság a rabság ellentéte volna?

A verssorban mindenekelőtt a brk ige nif‘al formájának a jelentése okoz problémát.

A szegény irigykedik a gazdagra. Szeretne ő is gazdagabb lenni.

Akárcsak JHWH panaszainak esetében, a prófétai panaszok elsődleges üzenetét a vallomásszövegekben feltárható eredeti prófétai panaszok alapján írjuk körül.

The succeeding articles will be concerned with an overview of research in terms of the textual traditions of Proverbs, questions of dating (pre-exilic/post-exilic), setting, various Egyptian, Mesopotamian and Ugaritic parallels and the structure and character of Prov 10–29 and of 30–31, secular and/or religious wisdom, the concept of the fear of the Lord and theology.

Gottes Macht offenbart sich in ihm (Mt 28,18; Röm 8,35–39; Phil 2,9–10; Off 5,12; 12,10; 1Petr 3,22).

Negative Aspects in the Picture about יהוה. Approaches of Three Writers of Old Testament Theology. Different modes of interpretation drive to different conclusions. This study examines these differences in the works by W. Eichrodt, G. von Rad- and W. Brueggemann of Old Testament theology. The two former authors use the historical interpretation, while the third one is the representative of the rhetorical and narrative theology. The theme of Yahweh’s negative aspects is always a stumbling-block not only for laymen, but also for the scholars of theology. Differences deriving from interpretation are illustrated through three biblical examples: the heavenly scenes in 1Kings 22 and Isaiah 6, Saul’s story, and that of the Book of Job. The present study intend to show that the diachronic approach aims at resolving the dissonances found in the texts about Yahweh’s unexplainable deeds using a kind of development-theory of religion or of literary forms (laying stress on the harmonizing contexts of covenant or of salvation-history). As opposed to this, the synchronic examination of texts reveals a „never accomplished” concept about God. Thus we may conclude that the openened testimonies about God and the dissonances between them must keep the disciplines of theology ready to modify or rewrite their conclusions.

The Interpretation of The Epistle to the Colossians 1,1–11. These verses form the introduction to the Epistle containing the heading, the address, the greeting (vs. 1–2.), the thanksgiving (vs. 3–8), and the prayer of intercession (vs. 9–11.). The present essay belonging to the genre of Bible interpretation is going to be the first part of a commentary on this book. The reason for my having started elaborating it is that in the last thirty years no scientific interpretation on the book was published in Hungarian. This is why there is a need to sum up the results of research published in theological literature. As the authorship of the book is concerned, we assume the point of view that the epistle had been written by Timothy at Paul’s request and under his guidance. Accordingly the epistle took its origin in the last period of the apostle’s life, possibly during the Roman captivity. This is the explanation of the fact that both in form and theological point of view it is close to Paul’s other epistles. The interpretation follows the classical scheme of division: translation, analysis of form and exegetical commentary. As methodology is concerned the interpretation blends the historical-critical and the theological approach. The aim of the author is to point to the historical and congregational situation in which the epistle took its origin and to reveal those thoughts and ideas that were formulated about the life and faith of the christian church. As the Epistle to the Colossians sprang up in a certain given context as the history of religion is concerned, it is necessary to show the way in which the author of the epistle reflects upon the religious-philosofical influences, stressing the specific character of Christian teaching.

By the Sound of a Great Crowd. In this short writing our purpose is to examine the problems of translation and interpretation of Jeremiah 11,16. In this biblical verse the word hmlh has many possibilities of translation. After a short presentation of the biblical background I will examine the Hungarian, English, German, Dutch, French, Greek and Latin translations of this biblical verse, and finally I will present my own translation. At the end of this paper I am going to draw a parallel between the meanings of this image in the Old and New Testament. The Hebrew dictionaries given many meanings of the word hmlh: roaring sound, tempest and crowd. The LXX renders the word hmlh by circumcision, which is grammatically impossible. Hieronymus translates it with loquella, which means speaking. In Calvin’s Latin translation we read sermo, and in an additional note tumultus. In the German translations we can read große (Kriegs-) Getöse, ein großes Geprassel, Mordgeschrei. In the French translations we read about un bruit fracassant and au bruit d’un grand fracas. The Dutch versions translate it either by tempest, or by een geluid van een groot geroep. The majority of the English translations keep the ambivalence of the text, translating the word hmlh with tumult. But Robert Davidson translates it by tempest, and in other less known English translations we find: But I will set you on fire, fire that will blaze with a mighty roar – He has set fire to it, and its branches are consumed with a great roaring sound. Finally I have suggested the following translation: By the sound of a great crowd He has set fire to it. According to this translation the meaning of this biblical passage is changing as follows: the secret sin will be followed by a public punishment – As the thief is shamed when he is discovered, so the house of Israel is shamed (Jer 2,26). As a New Testament parallel we should read John 15,1–8.

Vocation and Mission in the First Three Gospels. Jesus’ calling and ministry was chronologically followed by the vocation and election of the disciples. The calling and election happened in accordance with Jesus’ and the Father’s sovereign will. The story of the disciples’ vocation shows several resemblances with the stories on the calling of the Old Testament prophets, especially with the calling of Elisha by Elijah. The Twelve abandoned their occupations, homes, relatives, in one word everything immediately after the calling. Above all they had to give up their own lives, to share the master’s destiny. The writers of the synoptic gospels with no exception recorded the list of names of the apostles. The number of the disciples is symbolic because Jesus laid claim upon all the twelve tribes of Israel. Through his disciples Jesus gathered God’s old-new people for salvation. Their selection was done out of a larger circle of disciples. Some of Jesus’ expectations were not compulsory for all of them. For example not everyone had to follow him leaving everything behind, because some women were his disciples by serving from their fortunes. Others did not leave their parents and relatives behind, but they still became disciples remaining in their places. Geographically the twelve disciples came from Galilee. The disciples were together with Jesus and they were prepared by him to preach, to heal, to drive out unclean spirits and to raise the dead. The mission – that meant serving and teaching, first of all – often went together with suffering, but that was considered to be another opportunity of bearing testimony to them. Their calling happened with a view to mission. The Father sent the Son, and Jesus sent the disciples to preach on God’s kingdom, on conversion and on belief in the Gospel. For this assignment he gives the disciples the same authority and power he got from the Father for preaching and healing. Jesus sends out the disciples two by two as “yoke-companions”. After the spiritual authorization and after their having been sent out two by two, we learn about the fact that in a completely defenseless situation the disciples went out on their ways without the least necessary journey-equipment. The synoptic gospels without any exception note that Jesus did not allow the disciples to take too much with them in order to fulfill their mission. In these enumerations we can find the prohibition of bread, bags, money, more than two robes, sandals and sticks After the first mission, which meant only inner mission, a new situation appeared, in which Jesus instructed his disciples to supply some necessaries. Besides the investment with authority and power, the disciples were given by Jesus a promise, regarding the signs of their faith as well and their master’s continuous presence. The promise in Mk 16,17–18 speaks about five signs which are to follow the believers’ faith: they will drive out demons, they will speak in tongues, if they pick up snakes or drink any poison, they will not be harmed and they will lay their hands on sick people and these will get well. Jesus entrusted his disciples with the continuation of his mission before Easter, while he was still on earth. First of all the twelve disciples were those who had this honor, after Jesus showed them an example and prepared them. Besides them the seventy(-two) disciples are mentioned, whom Jesus sent as well, with the same mission. The mission of the disciples supposed service and suffering. Besides the biblical theological way of handling this topic we have to take into consideration the Christological, ecclesiological and eschatological aspects, too. The disciples only partly recognize Christ in the person of their master before Easter. In spite of this, they accept Jesus’ authority and mission; they are surprised by his miracles which were beyond their reach. In the course of Jesus’ teaching and giving example they become more and more obedient towards their Lord, until after Easter and Pentecost, when they carry out their task as committed delegates. From the Christological aspect ensues the ecclesiological one. Discipleship in Matthew’s Gospel means the acceptance of the gospel. The disciples hear and understand Jesus’ commands, his teaching and they do God’s will. At the same time, according to 28,20 the disciples are those, in whom Jesus is always present with his authority. The disciples have differentiated roles in the church, because they are the new patriarchs, who are a paradigm to be followed by the later disciples. The result of the Christological aspect of discipleship is its eschatological character. The synoptic gospels present Jesus as someone, who for the time being rules the earth, but at the same time he is the Son of Man too, who will come and judge everyone. Christology defines the believers’ attitude not only towards the past and the present, but towards future as well. Matthew speaks about Christian life as something that is bound to the perspective of the eschatology. The disciples’ life and obedience is decisive from the standpoint of the coming judgment. The calling to the emergency of conversion can save many people’s lives. Christ’s eschatological teaching and healing means God’s last word, which implements and reveals his will. By listening and accepting this preaching and teaching people can become Jesus’ disciples, and the eschatological salvation depends on it. The subjects of the vocation and of mission are the Father, Jesus Christ and the Holy Spirit. The basis and the aim of the Father’s calling and sending is Jesus. Between Jesus’ transfiguration and return the subject of the vocation and of the mission is the Holy Spirit. Jesus is able to make the stones cry out, and still he calls ordinary people to proclaim his eternal message. In spite of the apparent restriction Jesus’ call in Mt 11,28a refers to everyone. Jesus’ universal call becomes evident in Mk 13,10 and eventually in his command that he sends to every creature and every nation all over the world. The universal call is delivered as a personal one. The triune God calls everybody, claims everybody and turns the obedient ones into disciples and gives them commission.

The Impossibility of a Second Repentance in the Epistle to the Hebrews. We have argued in this assignment for an interpretation of the impossibility of a second repentance, which is neither entirely psychological, nor is to be understood and complemented by inferences from Greco-Roman patronage, but it is an inherent impossibility, having in its background a theological argument: so splendid is the revelation of God in Jesus Christ, that turning away from it in apostasy is a way that excludes any chance for a second repentance.
