Jefte történetében a bibliaolvasó több botránkoztató ténnyel szembesül. Az első Jefte származása. Lehet-e karizmatikus vezető egy parázna asszony fia? Hogyan lehet egy övéitől eltaszított személy hőssé magasztosult vezérré a veszedelem idején? A harcba induló Jefte miért akarja lekötelezni Istent egy könnyelműen tett fogadalommal, s amikor győztesen tért haza, vajon tényleg emberáldozatra volt képes, és feláldozta egyetlen leányát? Vagy pedig „csupán” élő áldozatként szentelte oda Istennek egész életére? Ezekre a kérdésekre szeretnénk választ adni ebben a tanulmányban.

Témánk a presbiteri szolgálatot minden időben meghatározó kérdés. Szeretnénk Kálvin biblikus elveihez és a Genfi egyházi rendtartáshoz mérni jelen egyházi életünket. Miután Kálvin mindenekelőtt a Szentírás kiváló ismerője, és annak üzenetét feltétlen követelményként alkalmazó tudós lelkipásztor volt, előbb a bibliai tanítást szeretnénk felvázolni az egyházfegyelem és egyházkormányzás tekintetében. Ezt követően szólunk Kálvin tanításáról főképpen az Institutio és a Genfi Gyülekezet Rendtartása alapján; végül pedig arra szeretnénk rámutatni, hogy a kálvini felismerések és tanítások miként érvényesülnek református egyházunk hitvallási irataiban, a II. Helvét Hitvallásban és a Heidelbergi Kátéban.

Mind több átlagkeresztyén úgy gondolja, hogy a templombajárás a konfirmandusok (legalábbis a kátéórákon való részvétel által), meg az idejükkel mit kezdeni nem tudó öregek szokása, akiknél az ún. társadalmi érintkezés bizonyos formáját is jelenti. A többiek számára az egyház nem más, mint alkalmi eszköz, bizonyos vallásos-konvenciós esetek megoldására, mint a keresztelés, konfirmálás, esketés, temetés illő formában való lebonyolítása. Az Ige mindezekben egyre kevésbé jut szóhoz, vagy ha szóhoz jut is, alig figyelnek rá.

The purpose of the Epistle to the Hebrews. In this essay we argue that the particular purpose of Hebrews is obscure for the modern reader. It is clear, that it was addressed to a particular community that needed to be warned not to apostatize, not to turn away from Christianity. But no dogmatic conclusion can be reached on a more precise identification of the danger could consist in. The drift of the argument on the levitical cultus, the exhortations and argumentations from the exposition of so many Old Testament passages would possibly give weight to the theory that the danger was that of relapsing into Judaism, a theory held by numerous scholars. However, this is an inference, though reasonable. But each further step in order to identify the exact form of the apostasy to Judaism will be conjectural. What we can tell from the thoughts expressed in the epistle is that the author wants to reassure his recipients in their faith, to inspire them by pointing to the HighPriest Christ, and to reinstate them in the characteristic Christian features of their faith, warning them of the immeasurable loss in case they would give up their belief in Christ.

The Problem of Suffering in the Holy Scripture. Suffering is one of the universal problems of mankind. Generally saying, everybody suffers to some extent in a part of his or her life. Corporal suffering has a great influence ont he state of mind, and vice versa. We are searching the reason, the purpose the suffering in human experience, in philosophy and in the same way in the Holy Scripture. In this study the author makes an attempt to lighten the answers of the Bible in the following problems: the different kinds of suffering, the origin and the purpose of it, the problem of the substitute suffering, the Servant of the Lord, the sufferings of Christians and of the Church, the human behaviour under suffering, the blessing of it; the suffering, which leads to death and finally: the suffering in the salvation counsel of God. The conclusion of the study is the following: suffering may be probation or an educational instrument of the Lord’s, which is included in his eternal plan of salvation. The blood of Christ purifies us from every sin, but in this earthly life we need the permanent purificatory work of God as long so as to reach we will be transformed to the similitude of the Son of God.

Nehéz helyzetben lehet az a lelkipásztor, aki ma a Heidelbergi Káté (HK) tanításába kezd. Két lehetőség közt választhat. Az egyik az, hogy a Káté szövegét minden magyarázat nélkül egyszerűen bemagoltatja a konfirmandusokkal. Alapos okom van azt hinni, hogy a lelkészek nagyobbik része ezen az úton jár.

The Impossibility of a Second Repentance in the Epistle to the Hebrews. We have argued in this assignment for an interpretation of the impossibility of a second repentance, which is neither entirely psychological, nor is to be understood and complemented by inferences from Greco-Roman patronage, but it is an inherent impossibility, having in its background a theological argument: so splendid is the revelation of God in Jesus Christ, that turning away from it in apostasy is a way that excludes any chance for a second repentance.
