Száz éves a Református Szemle. Nem kevés, sőt hosszú idő ez egy folyóirat esetében, amely több más erdélyi laphoz képest, ráadásul még szerencsésnek is tekintheti magát – vagy mi vagyunk a szerencsések(?) –, mert megszakítás nélkül élhette meg eddigi száz esztendejét. E száz év, mint minden jó, amit az ember kaphat, átvehet és felvállal: áldás és teher, öröm és gond, büszkeség és felelősség… De nekünk, most, a centenárumát megért Szemle jelenlegi szerkesztőinek és munkatársainak mindenekelőtt hálát kell éreznünk.

Die Rezeption der neuen ungarischen Bibelübersetzung in Siebenbürgen. Diese Studie wurde als Vortrag in Budapest am 8. November 2005 gehalten im Rahmen einer feierlichen Konferenz des Ungarischen Bibelvereins mit Thema: Die 30 jährige neue ungarische Bibelüberzetzung und die 15 jährige revidierte neue Überzetzung. Der erste Teil der Studie führt uns in die Problematik der Rezeption der übersetzten Bibeltexte allgemein ein, und der zweite Teil stellt die Rezeption der neuen ungarischen Bibelüberzetzung in Siebenbürgen, auch auf dem Grund einer Meinungsbefragung zwischen Pfarrern dar.

Die erste Nummer der Reformierten Rundschau, die als offizielles Blatt von dem Siebenbürgischen Reformierten Kirchenbezirk herausgegeben wurde, war am 10. Januar 1908 erschienen. Die seit 100 Jahren fortlaufend erscheinenede Zeitschrift wollte von Anfang an die Aufgaben einer kirchlichen Presse erfüllen. Sie beschäftigte sich ausführlich mit der Vergangenheit des Kirchenbezirks,mit aktuellen Fragen und formte die kirchliche öffentliche Meinung.Sie diente als Mittel für die Sicherung der intellektuellen Verbindung zwischen jenen,die mit Wort und Schrift im Dienst der Kirche standen und hielt die Fackeln des Glaubens und Wissens aufrecht. Ab 1960 veröffentlichte die Reformierte Rundschau immer mehrere Studien. Heute ist sie schon das Forum der theologischen Tätigkeit und Forschung geworden.Zugleich widerspiegelt sie die wissenschaftliche Arbeit der mit der Kirche verbundenen reformierten Intelligenz Ihre Arbeit steht im Einklang mit den Zielsetzungen der ehemaligen Reformierten Rundschau.

Psalm-singing in the Community of Therapeutae Based on De vita contemplativa by Philo of Alexandria. The Therapeutae’s ascetic devotion is characterized not only by searching the scriptures, meditation and prayer but also by singing of hymns and psalms. Hymns were composed by the principals of the community, they were those who taught the community members to sing them and they continually enriched the hymnal with new ones. The Essenes’ and Therapeutae’s psalm-singing indicates first of all the common Old Testament origin. However these religious communities had different self-identity from that of the normative Jews and this identity required for a special psalm-poetry to be accomplished. The Therapeutae’s psalms remind us of the church psalm-tradition characterized, just like the Essene hymns, by responsive singing and refrains. This singing of hymns developed outside the church is due not only to the distance from the Sanctuary or to the estrangement from the priesthood, but also to the prophetical preaching criticizing sacrifice. The Essenes considered their community to be like a spiritual temple and this spiritual worship is very striking in the case of the Therapeutae as well. Part of the Essenes’ thanksgiving hymns may have resounded on festive occasions, probably on the feast dedicated to the renewal of the Covenant as well. However it is certain that the Therapeutae sang their hymns at dawn on the fiftieth day (Jewish Pentecost). Consequently these were connected to their feast expressing joy. Their overflowing joy presents similarities with the atmosphere of sacral feasts in the Qumran community. In the Essene table society one could feel the foretaste of the future Messianic feast (1Q28a II, 11–22). The nocturnal feast of the Therapeutae associated with singing and cultic dance was a new dash of colour as compared to the Essenes’. This practice shows similarities with the mystery religions.

Laymen Institution in the Hungarian Reformed Church District of Transylvania. It has been disputed for the last few decades the possible presence and task of the laymen in the church government of the 16–18. Centuries Hungarian Reformed Church life in Transylvania. Arguments have been brought up to prove that as soon as the 16th century the West-European type Presbyterium has already started to gain terrain in the church. The study tries to come up with arguments to prove that the democratic church government according to which the Swiss, English, German, Dutch reformed churches had been doing the government in the 16–17 centuries was not present only in the synods’ records and has not became reality in the Transylvanian church life. Peter Melius bishop of Debrecen was the one, who has found out, that the Presbiterial institution did not fit to the structure of Transylvanian and Hungarian society, consequently he put up the new adapted structure of the local churches as well, as that of the deaneries.
